Healthy Kids: A guide for parents (of kids ages 2-10) that addresses the developmental, nutritional and emotional development of children and families.
The Whole Child: Get the scoop on child development from birth through age five, with a quick reference timeline, in-depth articles, activity ideas, video clips, and forum areas to share your thoughts.
NMHA - Time for Reassurance: This guide from the National Mental Health Association is for parents and teachers to help the children in their lives, as well as themselves, cope with tragedy. The site provides articles, tips for adults, and links to helpful Web sites.
SmarterKids Family Resource Center: Parenting tips, activities, and information to help parents raise their children. Learn how to understand your child's development from infant to grade 9.
You Can Handle Them All: Take the guess work out of handling discipline problems by referring to this web-based discipline model resource for over one hundred misbehaviors at school and at home.
ParentsPlace.com: The first parenting community on the web. Created by two stay at home parents who believe parents are the best resource for other parents.
Parents Helping Parents: A giant parent-directed family resource center for children with any kind of special need (mental, physical, emotional, or learning disabilities).
ParentingInformation.org: Sponsored by the Mental Health Association in Texas, this site is meant to help parents promote mental health, prevent mental illness, and to improve care and treatment for children with mental illnesses.
AllowanceNET.com: This free website helps parents and children plan, organize, manage, and spend allowance payments.

Parents' Guide to the Information Superhighway: A guide for parents who see that computers and online services will be (or already are) a part of children's lives at school-and who are looking for some guidelines and advice. Written with the computer novice in mind, this site provides simple definitions and ideas for how to get involved.
FamiliesConnect: The American Association of School Librarians offers these Online classes for families to learn about the Internet together, including the basics, safety, and other tips.
ParenTech: ParenTech is a unique technology education campaign that provides free resources for families and educators of middle school kids (grades 6-8).
The EdWeb Home Room: What is the link between education and the Internet? EdWeb looks at questions like these and provides insight on school reform and the potential educational ramifications of the "Information Superhighway" to provide a glimpse into the future global school.
America Links Up!: Resources and tips to help ensure children have a safe and rewarding online experience.

BookAdventure.org Parent's Place: With this free service parents can learn how to motivate their children (K-8) to read longer, more frequently, and with greater comprehension. Parents can monitor reading activities and track quiz results. This site's goal is to empower parents with fun ideas, informative articles and Internet tools to enhance their child's education.
ParentSmart: This guide to the best and most helpful information about how to help your child succeed in school is provided in a searchable database of reviewed articles that are also organized by topic.
Homework and Studying at Home: Ideas to help parents help their children with homework and studying at home.
eScore.com: This site helps parents learn what's best for their child's education and development (ages 0-14). Parents enter information about their child into online assessments and receive immediate analysis of the child's developmental and educational needs. Also find information on state tests, education standards, and local educational event listings.
Parent Soup Education Central: This site is filled with valuable information about child development and ways to enhance encourage learning. Read about various teaching strategies and view sample curriculum outlines.
Keep School Safe: The National Association of Attorneys General and National School Boards Association have joined together to create a plan for keeping our schools safe. Discover what the parents' part in the plan is and how we can make school a safe place for children.
ERIC Clearinghouse on Disabilities and Gifted Children: ERIC EC provides access to professional literature, information, and resources on the education and development of individuals of all ages who have disabilities and/or who are gifted.
Education Week: Weekly news about education reform, schools, and the policies that guide them.
Find Your School: The National Center for Education Statistics provides this resource for finding educational information about students across the Nation. Use the map to locate any public elementary/secondary school, learn its address, discover how many teachers and students it has, plus much more.

Parenting in Texas
Texas Public Education Portal Links for Parents: TEA provides answers to common questions that parents ask.
Family Learning Guide: This guide can be a powerful tool for helping your children with the foundations of the core curriculum in mathematics, reading, and writing (K-5). The Family Learning Guide is based on the TEKS and features activities, tips, and resources you can use at home to help your children learn.
Student Assessment: TEA's Student Assessment Division manages and oversees the development, administration, scoring, and analysis of the statewide assessment program. Parents can access this site to learn more about how their students are assessed and to access information on the assessment tools (TAAS, TLI, RPTE, etc.)
Released TAAS Tests: Take the Spring 2000 exit-level Texas Assessment of Academic Skills test online and have it scored. This program is available 24 hours a day and was developed to make students, educators, parents and others familiar with the material on the examination.
Texas School District Locator: The TSDL allows you to drill down to a specific school district and access information about school campuses and their location, district staff and their contracts, student performance and financial information for any ISD, and links to school websites in Texas.
Texas Tomorrow Fund: An innovative, prepaid tuition program designed to make it easier for Texas families to send their children to college. The TTF allows Texas families to lock in the cost of tomorrow's college tuition and required fees at today's prices.

Organizations for Parents
Parent Technology Involvement: Many parents would like to be involved in the use of technology in their children's schools. Here are some ideas you can bring to your community. Follow links at the bottom of each page to advance to additional issues of interest.
National PTA: The National Parent Teacher Association is the oldest and largest volunteer association in the United States working exclusively on behalf of children. This site offers PTA news, programs, message boards, links to state and local PTAs, and parent and teacher resources.
Texas PTA: Studies have shown that a parent's membership in PTA provides their child with a greater chance of achieving in school. As PTA members, parents are more likely to be informed and involved.
The National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities: The national information and referral center that provides information on disabilities and disability-related issues for families, educators, and other professionals.
Early Childhood Intervention: The Texas Interagency Council on Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is the state agency that serves Texas families who have babies and toddlers with disabilities or developmental delays.
Texas Parents as Teachers: PAT is a home-school partnership designed to give children the best possible start in life and to support parents as their children's first teachers. PAT programs provide training and support services that enable parents to nurture and enhance their children's physical, social/emotional, cognitive, and language development, thus reducing the chance of developmental delays.

TxServe: An interactive, comprehensive Web-based resource that maps the groups and organizations forming the backbone of volunteerism and service in Texas. TxServe is designed to strengthen public engagement and volunteerism in schools and other community groups across Texas. Information can be viewed by city, region, or mission focus.
Helping.org: An easy-to-use online resource designed to help people find volunteer and giving opportunities in their own communities and beyond. The site links you to local and national organizations and connects you to other helpful resources.
Kids Care: Great community service/service-learning ideas and projects for use by families, classes, schools, and youth groups. Kids Care's mission is to develop the spirit of compassion and volunteerism in children.
FamilyCares: Ideas for families who want to volunteer together in their community.
NetDay: A grassroots volunteer effort to get schools across the country wired to the Internet.
Connect for Kids - Guidance for Grownups: Connect for Kids helps adults make their communities a better place for families and children. This site offers a place on the Internet for adults who want to become more active citizens, from volunteering to voting with kids in mind.
Communities in Schools - Central Texas: CIS-Central Texas exists to help young people learn, stay in school, and prepare for a successful life by providing school-based social services and links to community resources.
Texas School Safety Center: An ongoing interdisciplinary resource providing training and technical assistance statewide to reduce youth violence and promote safety.
Texas School Garden Resources: Many neighborhood groups are forming community gardens, which are a great way to get both children and adults involved in beautifying the neighborhood community while working with nature.
AISD Community Programs: Links to and about Austin's partnerships, mentoring programs, PTAs, and more.
America Reads Challenge: A grassroots national campaign challenging every American to help children learn to read by the end of the 3rd grade.
National Mentoring Partnership: The National Mentoring Partnership is an advocate for the expansion of mentoring and a resource for mentors and mentoring initiatives nationwide. "Things that may seem easy or straightforward to you are often mysterious to young people. That's why it can be easier than you think to make a difference in a young person's life."

State of Texas Web Site: The official compilation of Texas State Government electronic resources and an index of Texas agency web sites and services.
Texas Taxpayers and Research Association: TTARA offers timely information to Texas businesses about the policies and events that may affect the fiscal environment.
Data Central: Data Central provides access to two repositories of TEA's Public Access Initiative information: the Financial Data Mart and the Student Performance Data Mart. Find information about the facts, records, and statistics of every public school district in the State of Texas.
