Gaggle.Net Free Filtered Email for Schools: This safe, free email service is designed specifically for student use (in the classroom, library, or at home). An easy way for teachers to allow students to email, facilitate classroom email projects, and monitor student tasks.

The Kid Link Network: Kidlink's aim is to get young people from all over the world to interact through email discussions, live chat events, Web-based discussions and other means. The project has been going for about 10 years.

ePALS classroom exchange: ePALS helps learners of all ages become active members of the global community by giving them access to tools, resources and each other. ePALS offers interactive tools - email, private and public chat rooms, discussion boards and photosharing.

Flat Stanley: Learn about life in other parts of the world by participating in an exciting writing exchange with other classrooms.

Books without Boundaries: This project encourages schools around the world to collect books, stationary and other educational materials to send to schools and facilities in disadvantaged countries. (K-12)

CyberSurfari: A free Internet treasure hunt game that helps teachers and students learn to use and benefit from the Web. Benefits are: discovering new educational web sites, honing web and navigation skills, and improving reading comprehension and deductive reasoning while fostering team spirit and friendly competition.

The Jason Projects: Follow scientists to the bottom of the ocean or inside a volcano, the options are limitless with this interactive telecommunication program that allows students and teachers to participate in the fun part of science - discovery! This site even provides correlations to state standards for all of their Jason projects.

Be World Wise - Around the World for Education: Travel the seas virtually aboard a Tall Ship on a 19 month, 22 country voyage. Classroom activities and lessons are included. (1-12)

Challenge 2000 Project-Based Learning and Multimedia Website: Students learn course content and technology skills by completing curriculum-based projects that culminate in multimedia products. The production process involves reading, writing, interviewing, text-based and Internet-based research, and use of multimedia software applications.

Midlink Magazine: An electronic magazine for middle school students to share their writing and participate in interactive writing projects. The mission of MidLink Magazine is to highlight exemplary work from the most creative classrooms around the globe. (5-9)

Global Children's Art Gallery: A rotating collection of pictures submitted by children from around the world. Students can view pictures in either thumbnails or full size, grouped by age and country, and can also submit their own artwork. Offers interesting perspective on how other cultures see themselves and their world.

The National Math Trail: In this interactive Internet-based project, registered students and teachers post community-based math problems to the National Math Trail site, and participate in project activities and events. The use of technology in creating submissions is encouraged: photos, drawings, sound recordings, videos -- whatever can be adapted to the Internet may be included.

Classroom Connect: The premier Web site for wired K-12 educators and students worldwide! This site includes a virtual auditorium, teacher contacts, and links to over 2,100 schools on the Web. Subscribe to either of the two main features at this site: Connected Teacher, where teachers can mingle online, share ideas, or register for an online course; and Classroom Today, weekly programs through which your class can investigate timely topics.

My Hero: An interactive writing project in which real life heroes are honored and written about by students across the online world.

Human Genetics - A Worldwide Search for the Dominant Trait: Each human is unique in that they inherit specific genes from both parents. Some of these genes are dominant, some are not. This project leads students through an amazing discovery of their dominant genes and why they are such. (6-9+)

Square of Life: Internet-based collaborative project where students share information about the plants, animals and non-living objects found in their schoolyard environment with other students from around the country and the world. (1-6)

Save the Beaches: In this project, students pick up litter at local beaches, which they then analyze and categorize. Students use e-mail to share the data with participating schools. The project then encourages students to draw conclusions from the data and discuss ways they can reduce pollution. (K-12)

One Sky Many Voices: The mission of this project is to create innovative, inquiry-based K-12 weather curricula that utilizes current technologies such as CD-ROMs and the Internet for the interactive study of current weather and air quality.

The Global Sun/Temperature Project: In this project, schools determine how proximity to the equator affects average daily temperature and hours of sunlight. Students record their daily temperature and number of hours of sunlight per day over a period of a week. Classes submit their data to an online database and compare their data with results from classes all over the globe.

Down the Drain: This Internet-based collaborative project allows students to share information about water usage with other students around the world. Based on data collected, students determine the average amount of water used by one person in a day. They will compare this to the average amount of water used per person in other parts of the world. (4-8)

Project Atmosphere Australia: Students (grades 5-12) forecast, measure and write about the impact of weather on the lives and livelihoods of members of their community. Using telecommunications, students check their forecasts with students in other schools across Australia and the world.

Global Water Sampling: International collaboration in which students (6-12) compare the water quality of a local river, stream, lake, or pond with other fresh water sources around the world. Site includes student and teacher areas, access to experts, reference materials, and project data.

SchoolWorld Projects: This site provides numerous links to online projects that promote communication, collaboration, and the realization of diversity among peoples of the world. Participants have the opportunity to lend their unique ideas and knowledge. New projects are added regularly. (K-12)
